Poem 1: A House, A Home
Poet: Lorraine M. Halli
Introduction: In this poem, the poet explains the difference between a 'house' and a 'home'. Often we think they mean the same thing, but they are very different.
Summary & Explanation
Stanza 1 (A House):
A house is made of brick, stone, and hard wood. It has glass windows and perhaps a yard. It has eaves, chimneys, tile floors, stucco, roof, and lots of doors. Basically, a house is a non-living structure or building.
Stanza 2 (A Home):
A home is made by loving family members (brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers). It is about unselfish acts and sharing. It involves caring for each other and showing that you love them. A home is where love and affection exist.
