Q1. What is 'Apartheid'?

A system of racial discrimination unique to South Africa. White Europeans imposed it. People were divided by skin colour and kept separate.

Q2. Who was Nelson Mandela?

Leader of ANC (African National Congress). He fought against Apartheid, spent 28 years in prison (Robben Island), and became the first President of democratic South Africa.

Q3. What is a 'Constitution'?

A set of written rules that are accepted by all people living together in a country. It is the supreme law.

Q4. Why do we need a Constitution?

1. To generate trust. 2. To specify how government is constituted. 3. To limit powers of government. 4. To express aspirations of the people.

An introductory statement in a Constitution which states the reasons and guiding values of the Constitution.
